Performing

Program Description

In this program, students will develop their skills as a background singer in a cappella, a vocal percussionist, and a dynamic soloist. Students will learn specific vocal techniques for singing pop and jazz music with an emphasis on vocal health and healthy belting.

While there are no pre-requisites to any of the courses, students should have a passing familiarity with musical notation, music theory, and notation software. If a student does not have these qualifications, they may struggle to keep up with the content. It is recommended that students who are not familiar with music theory or notation software learn these before enrolling in this program. Vocaversity offers an individual course that reinforces this material, but the course is not part of the performing program and must be purchased separately. For a list of resources, click here.

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

1) Perform healthy belting techniques for singing pop and jazz music.

2) Act as a group's vocal percussionist with confidence.

3) Perform a variety of music as a soloist.

4) Improvise music as a soloist and a group.
